SOMERSET COUNTY SCHOOL BUS-TRUCK ACCIDENT CLAIMS ONE LIFE

On Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at approximately 2:35pm, a Pepsi tractor trailer truck crossed into the opposite lane on Route 281 in Middlecreek Township Somerset County and slammed into a school bus carrying approximately 30 students. There was confirmed entrapment at the scene of the crash. Numerous Fire, Rescue and EMS units responded to the mass casualty accident. As many as 6 medical helicopters were requested at the scene for air transport of the injured. Emergency crews did a great job handling the incident, quickly evaluating the injured and getting them transported in a timely manner. The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Six students and an adult were airlifted to hospitals and many more students were transported by EMS to area hospitals for evaluation. The Pennsylvania State Police are currently investigating the cause of this accident.
