Firefighters from Moon and Crescent Townships responded to a residential structure fire at 128 Dover Drive in Moon Township on Thursday, August 25, 2011. First arriving units were faced with heavy black smoke billowing from the door on the alpha side.

A male resident, who had made many attempts to rescue his dogs through the thick smoke, was transported by Valley EMS to Mercy Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Crews searched for dogs that were reportedly still trapped inside. Crews rescued the dogs and removed them from the structure, where EMS personnel administered oxygen to the canines before they were transported to Moon Vet for further treatment.

Interior attack crews made a quick knock down of the fire, keeping it contained to the kitchen, where the fire appeared to have originated. Other rooms in the residence sustained smoke damage.
